Welcome to Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon is a story about two star-crossed lovers that are divided and denied their forbidden love. Why? Because Kiowa is from a war tribe and Anoki is from a peace tribe. Kiowa cannot deny his heart, so he seeks the wisdom of his medicine man. “Is there no magic that can give me peace?”

The Medicine Man agrees to use his magic for Kiowa, “I will dance in the sun.”

On the third day of dancing, the medicine man’s spirit is lifted from his body. He ascends up to the heavens where he sees the stars outline the lovers. Kiowa and Anoki reach for each other. But when their hands touch, the stars scatter across the sky. “Their love was not to be. My vision is sorrow,” he says as his spirit begins to descend to the earth and reunite with his body.

The Sun God speaks and says, “look again.”

The medicine man turns and sees the stars reflecting off a lake. In the lake, Kiowa’s reflection embraces Anoki. With each ripple, the skin-walk and slowly transform into wolves. The medicine man returns to his sweat lodge and tells Kiowa the good news. “Kiowa, I have been given great magic to skin-walk you into wolves. If we conceal your love, then maybe your love can live.”

Kiowa nods and says, “To love without her, is to die.”

Will the medicine man’s vision come true? Does Anoki love Kiowa enough to abandon her tribe and skin-walk? What would life as wolves be like? Read the book to find out what Anoki decides.
